I attended the Opening Night performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Riverside Park Bandshell last night - and was treated to a very fine display of youthful talent indeed. T'was a delightful way to enjoy a midspring night in Guelph - one that I highly recommend.
Do plan to go. Bring your entire family. But please be prepared for the evening coolness and waves of mosquitoes.

Blog Guelph: A Very Blue Guelph Lake
Yesterday it was black and white. Today it's blue.
Yessireebob! You get a 12 pack of blue fotos in your Wednesday blog box, along with a couple tidbits of non-news, some soft news and one piece of breaking news to chew on for the day.
Here we have the lake-that-was-a-river, our lovely and seemingly oh-so-blue Guelph Lake. Of course you can enjoy biking around the lake, camping on the shore or diving right in. And you can play on it. The Guelph Rowing Club has a new location and clubhouse and the Guelph Community Boating Club - a co-op don'tcha know- have started Tuesday Race Nights.
So then ~ be anything BUT blue as you enjoy today's selection of talented photographers and their rendition of the blues. Click the pics.

Blog Guelph: Blue News
GUELPH – Guelph Jazz Festival artistic director Ajay Heble suffered a heart attack Monday during a return flight from Paris where he was attending a conference. He was attended to by physicians and nurses who were on his flight, and the airplane made an emergency landing in Goose Bay, Labrador, where he was transferred to hospital. He is now in stable condition.
Heble is the founder of the Guelph Jazz Festival and has been its artistic director for the past 15 years. He is also a professor of English at the University of Guelph, and the director of a multi-million dollar social research project entitled Improvisation, Community, and Social Practice. It was in regard to the latter project that Heble was in Paris over the previous week.

Blog Guelph: Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival
Greetings and salutations on this final Monday of May.
Guelph is about to fill to the brim with all things dance. Yes the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival shimmies and shakes into action this week - May 29 until June 1 - with performances both inside and outdoors. It's the 10th fest and no doubt the most ambitious to date.
To get your toes tapping, I'm pleased to offer 8 photos from year's gone by. Plan to attend something - with your kids - with your camera - with a desire to be swept away by artistic excellence.

Blog Guelph: Guelph Pottery Festival
Happy Hump Day all,
Blogstress Sue Richards and I are mixing it up a bit this week, and I find myself here on a most unfamiliar Wednesday. Never one to be thrown for too long, I'm seizing this opportunity to inform you about the upcoming Potters Market.
This delightful and very European festival of clay will be held on May 24 and 25 at Goldie Mill, near the almost bucolic babbling river. What better place than these fine mill ruins to feature the earthy works of at least 50 potters I say. It runs from 10am until 5pm rain or shine!

Blog Guelph: Red Fox
As you might expect - the sun is shining down on a lovely day here in Guelph. This of course follows a long weekend that included single digit temperatures, high winds, buckets of rain and according to at least one report - snow.
Never mind - we need not dwell on the past and instead will focus our attention on this six pack of summery redness and just for the heck of it - singing.
Yes, some pals of mine are offering a regular public Friday night Sing-A-Long and a collection of singing workshops that might just turn your crank in a joyous direction. The women only workshop is this coming weekend and still has a couple spots open.

Friday's Gem of the Day
Just a couple things to mention before I call this week quits. Firstly and mostly - it's the May Two Four - which if you're not from our neck of the woods translates into our first three day weekend of the warmer season in Canada.
For the locals looking for an outdoor activity, OPIRG is hosting a Saturday hike along the Speed, a Sunday paddle from Eden Mills to Guelph on the Eramosa River and Monday birdwatching. Registration is required so click the link for details.

Blog Guelph: Pine Grosbeak (Pinicola enucleator)

Today we feature the keen eye and natural sensibilities of corbeau_du_nord , AKA Alan Watson.
Alan is our eyes and ears to the Arboretum at The University of Guelph, an avid bird watcher, daring cyclist, wicked outdoors guy and all around excellent man.
So excellent, in fact, that one year ago tomorrow, he purchased a Flickr pro account for me.
At this point in time he hardly knew me at all, so in response to his great generosity and kindness I made the following promises:
:: I will continue to look at the world carefully and now with a special pro eye.
:: I will view others photos with relish and offer gentle praise to their vision.
:: I will eventually pay this kindness forward.
(One year later - I'm trying Corbeau, I'm trying!)
According to his profile on Flickr, Alan's aura is red and he could have been a dancer, boxer or Surgeon. Who knows, maybe he actually is all of those things...wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Blog Guelph: House Wren
This Wednesday's blog effort is for the birds.
Last evenings sunset sing-a-long was deserving of an award - an uncountable number of feathered friends entertained me and I hope other listening neighbours with a melodic cacophony of joyous sound that both tugged at my heart strings and tickled my fancy.

Oh what a happy Tuesday it is!
The sun is high in the sky, bare feet and shirtsleeves are visible; the sense of relief and joy are palpable on our sparkly, happy streets.

Blog Guelph: Robin
Spring is a time of bountiful beauty and wonder.
I spent much of my weekend absorbing the glory and admiring Mom Nature's latest sexy show, both the visual and the soundtrack. When I unplug, get quiet and give it the time of day, the natural world is so wonderfully entertaining.
On that note, I'm quite happy to start our week off with 12 seasonal images by 11 talented Guelph Photographers - starting with Memotions stunner - 'Junior Robin waiting for breakfast'.
Best viewed while sipping a steamy cup of garden fresh mint tea with a generous drizzle of spring blossom honey from Ignatius Farm Apiary.

A happy Tuesday to you all,
Thank goodness for our Empress of All Things Blog Guelph, Sue Richards, who yesterday filled us with extremely useful tidbits of information and local newsy items. Thank goodness because today we veer off that course for a bit of a non-informational, visual treat only.
I'm sure you, like me, have been spotting the return of the insect world lately. They've crept out of their cocoons, eggs, underground hidey-holes and what-have-you to heed the call of the bursting forth garden blooms and ever so juicy bare human arms.

I sincerely hope these images don't creep or freak you out in any way but c'mon, you do have to admire the magnificent quality of each find...

Blog Guelph: Guelph Grass
Happy Monday people and welcome to a newsy edition of Blog Guelph.
To start out this nine pic posting we have the Grass Report.
Thanks to Saturday's overdue and somewhat late April Showers all living grass in Guelph is now green. And thanks to Linamar, Guelph's largest employer, there are now eco friendly mowers to cut said grass down to size.
Of course we cannot speak of grass without mentioning the much debated lawn drugs - commonly known as cosmetic pesticides. The city has this bylaw in place for those of you tending 'grow yards'.
