Blog Guelph : The Lazy Eramosa River
Happy end of June fellow blogosphere friends. Today's four post Blog Guelph effort may inspire you to actually duplicate the action captured in each fotog.
Don't have a canoe - don't fret. For a reasonable fee - $12.00 on weekends and $10.00 through the week, you can rent a boat for an hour at the kiosk set up by the Boathouse Tearoom (Gordon Street and the river) and head up or down the Eramosa.
Thinking ahead - for those of you planning to celebrate Canada Day tomorrow, here's an anthem refresher for you.
Oh, Canada
Our home and native land,
True patriot love
In all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts
We see thee rise,
The true, north, strong, and free.
From far and wide
Oh Canada
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land
Glorious and free.
Oh, Canada we stand on guard for thee,
Oh, Canada
we stand on guard for thee.

Blog Guelph: Riverside Park Floral Clock
I know I know.
I did said no more Friday postings for the summer.
But with next week being short - July 1 is Canada Day - I felt compelled to offer one.
So here you have it - Guelph's working and constantly changing floral clock photographed by the talented Ms. Denim. You can catch a glimpse of the clock by driving by on your way to the Woolwich Street Beer Store. Or you can pull into Riverside Park and do a walking tour of the gardens.
Have a swank weekend. See you Monday but not Tuesday.

Blog Guelph: Heavenly Sky
Greetings Guelphites and fellow cyber-surfers from afar. Today I'm dishing up a batch of simple pics to ease your busy Wednesday minds into a state of lazy daze of summer.
If you've ever spent time watching a field of tall grass dance with a gentle breeze or lying on your back cloud gazing, you'll know how delightfully soul filling such simplicity can be.
And so it is my pleasure to offer up 8 pics for you to meditate on as you plug your way through the weeks apex - plus one fun capture for a chuckle.
There is news too. For instance, The Guelph Photography Club is meeting tonight - Wednesday, June 25th at 8:00 pm at The Albion Hotel. Do feel free to attend.
And we have two new blogs on the roll: Green Home Hints and Lauren - Everything and Anything. Of course you'll remember to tune into Royal City Rag tonight at 6pm on CFRU 93.3fm. And I'll bet your chomping at the bit to find out how Gareth Lind's last panel of Weltschmerz is going to end. That finale my friends will be yours tomorrow.
Lastly - my pal Rebecca is offering $50.00 off a home cleaning by her company Green Sweeps Canada . Check out her ad on the top right. Believe me when I say they do a bang up job and leave your home smelling fresh as summer.
Enjoy everything you can and then some. Click the pics.......

Blog Guelph: Morning Clematis
Happy Perfect Tuesday all,
Today I'd like to focus (har!) on a photographic method seen more and more these days.
And who better than the stellar photogs of Guelph Photography Club to illustrate such fine examples of such beautiful fuzz. I do believe they engage in "Bokeh Wednesday", so we've got a jump on them today it seems...
But what exactly is bokeh you say?
Here's a couple of pieced together definitions to help clear (har!) things up.
Bokeh: (disambiguation)
The blurry, un-focused background of a photograph DUE TO LENS BLUR **from close focusing**.
Bokeh describes the quality of out-of-focus areas of an image. The word “bokeh” (pronounced as boh-keh) comes from the Japanese word “boke” which means fuzziness. Bokeh isn’t the depth of field itself, but the way this unsharpness (usually the background) is displayed on a picture. A lens has good bokeh if the out-of-focus areas are pleasant and don’t distract from the subject. The shape of the aperture of a lens has a influence on bokeh. Lenses with more blades in the aperture diaphragm tend to result in more “round” bokeh.
There you have it. Now sit back and enjoy these 10. Oh, the blur!

Howdy to another week of photographic adventuring around Guelph and the surrounding countryside. Today's lucky 7 pics feature our agricultural roots and the rolling landscape that surrounds our fair city.
Farm land photography tends to be easy on the eyes, impose simple lines, big space and lots of sky. Oh and cows - pretty, big headed cows get the nod too.
Please take your time on this first Monday of summer. The slower you go the longer summer will last.

Blog Guelph: The Smell of Summer
Ryder dog has a nose for summer, which at long last arrives in Guelph at 6:59pm today by my rudimentary calculations. As a result, there are a pile of parties happening around town both tonight and deeper into the weekend. If you're free and unfettered and looking for action, snoop around Facebook for party crashing details.
BTW - Blog Guelph will be adopting summer habits for the next few months - which is to say we're scaling back to 4 days per week - Monday to Thursday.
Now then, click the pic to see the progress of Ryder's vanity project, celebrate the new season's dawning and appreciate something simple. It's summer in Guelph!

Blog Guelph: Guelph Peeps
So then.
Today's dozen Flickr fotos expand on yesterday's Downtown Guelph theme with the addition of one key ingredient - people. Yes besides all the pretty stone and mortar, Guelph currently boasts a population of 127,872 and is considered the 5th fastest growing city in Ontario. Not that I think fast is good - I'm just saying what I know.
For other fascinating facts about the folks in our cute and creative village, check out the Guelph's Wikipedia listing. Or cruise through our blog roll to really get to know who makes this town tic.
Please click every link and image you can during your visit to BG and you'll learn more than you ever imaged about Guelph.
That's Gwelf folks. Doesn't rhyme with anything.

Blog Guelph: Guelph downtown icons
A happy, shiny, crisp good Tuesday morn to you all.
Here's the thing about me right now - I've been moving for what seems like a lifetime and it hasn't ended yet. This tiny slice of personal hell interspersed with fleeting moments of excitement and a large drain on my bank account has left me out of the loop. I daresay some of you Blog Guelph viewers in far-reaching places may know more about what's going on in Guelph than I do at this moment.
But I can tell you this: I live and work downtown, I walk back and forth and through each day. So my report to you today is that Downtown Guelph is still marching on, hanging baskets of flowers brighten my walks, my Friday Noon Hour Concerts are in full swing, and the river just keeps on keepin' on.
That said, today I proudly present you 10 or 11 (sigh - didn't count before I started this...) glorious pictures of groovy Downtown Guelph.
Home to many, and one particularly crazed woman.
Wish me Luck

Blog Guelph: The other Guelph Storm
It's Monday - the last one of this moist spring we've been having - and a day I'm dedicating to a pictorial review of the weekends weather - plus a post about a job opportunity for a lucky Guelph web designer.
On an equally stormy note, municipal taxes are making headline news in the press these days and my letter to the Tribune editor got inked on Friday. Just in case you missed it - take a look here. But be forewarned - if you're inclined to complain about paying municipal taxes you might not like my perspective.

Blog Guelph: A poppy, pregnant with possibility
A happy Wednesday all.
The delightful Sue Richards and I are a tad under the weather these past few days therefore today's offerings are a bit meagre, as has been our way this week. It seems this Blog Train is taking the slow, uphill route. Our apologies for the sparsity. (Is that even a word?)
So, to fly in the face of illness, I offer you a fistful of poppies. Just because we at Blog Guelph Headquarters can't be poppy, it does not stop you lovely photogs from capturing the majesty of this particularly showy flower.
Oh, and hey, if you want to take you and your camera to greater heights of glory, check out this opportunity called Guelph Wellington's Vital Signs.

Blog Guelph: Shiver me timbers
Welcome to Thursday's
Made in Guelph
Hello fine folk,
Now, I know you're afforded the supreme privilege of seeing Denim's achingly gorgeous shots regularly on Blog Guelph, but I thought it was high time to feature a nice little slice of her work.
Donna Dobbin, as Denim is affectionately known for real, is one of those Lo-Fi kinda girls. She appears to have a million different film cameras but seems willing to slum in the digital world with the likes of me and countless of you out there too.
So what can I tell you?
Firstly that this is my absolute fave photo of hers.
Until I laid eyes on this, did I fully realize that, despite my joie de vivre and deep love of her old skool colour, I do indeed have a maudlin soul...
The 15 photos I've selected for your rumination today are examples of shots taken from some of Denim's different machines, yet they're a mere slice of what her capabilities and body of work are comprised of and they don't necessarily illustrate her love of the urban landscape to boot.
So please, puleeze clickety click on each and every shot to marvel on not only which camera took that pic, but also Denim's limitless capacity to envision Wellington and Waterloo County.
You, my friends, are in for a treat.

Blog Guelph: A Little Green Planet Called Johnston
Welcome to a wet, lush Wednesday in dear ole Guelph.
Given that it's Environment Week - which of course every week should be if we have any respect for future generations - today's spectacular photo essay is all about greenness - both colour and attitude. Hopefully the striking photographs will inspire a further greening of behaviour - because it really is great to be green.
So then, to start us off I present this clever pictorial of the University of Guelph's Johnston Green. Note the fine pallet of viridity. Find out how the photographer manufactured this pic by clicking on the image.

Blog Guelph: Ode to the Tulip
It's Environment Week in Canada this week and Blog Guelph is celebrating by paying tribute to one of the more striking natural features of Guelph's spring environment - the bold and cheerful tulip.
Indeed the tulip has put on some kinda show for the G-town flower lovers this year as you will see - if you haven't already - by today's 6 post effort.
And while I'm at it, here's a wee gardening tip that my pal Jim reminded me about last week as he flit through my garden, locating my tulip stems. To enhance next year's batch of tulip glory, remember to deadhead the tops after the petals have dropped and before too much effort is put into seed pod development. You'll be pumping up the bulb for next year.
On a more practical note, the City of Guelph is encouraging more green-ness this week with a Commuter Challenge. Guelph Transit is offering free transit service between 5:30 a.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Clean Air Day, Wednesday, June 4 as part of a citywide effort to reduce emissions.
So then 'get on the bus', go forth greenly and tiptoe through the tulips with me.

Blog Guelph: Tulip Guards
A Tulip Garden
by Amy Lowell
Guarded within the old red wall's embrace,
Marshalled like soldiers in gay company,
The tulips stand arrayed. Here infantry
Wheels out into the sunlight. What bold grace
Sets off their tunics, white with crimson lace!
Here are platoons of gold-frocked cavalry,
With scarlet sabres tossing in the eye
Of purple batteries, every gun in place.
Forward they come, with flaunting colours spread,
With torches burning, stepping out in time
To some quick, unheard march. Our ears are dead,
We cannot catch the tune. In pantomime
Parades that army. With our utmost powers
We hear the wind stream through a bed of flowers.

Blog Guelph: Noble Head High
The Tulip
By Ernestine Northover
Tossing turban style contours, with an aloofness as one passes by,
Utilizing every charm it possesses, under a lupin blue cloudless sky,
Like a guardsman, gallantly standing, holding up his noble head high,
In rainbow colours, brilliant and stately, a vision to surely yield a sigh,
Ponder thus upon the regal tulip, it has pure beauty, you cannot deny.

Blog Guelph: Liquid Flesh of the Tulip Bloom
Dew on the Tulip
by Raymond A. Foss
Perfect droplets
cling to the purple skin
the liquid flesh
of the tulip bloom
holding on, for moments more
before the melting away
in the May sunshine
waiting for my camera
my posing, posturing
holding still for the shot
ready to complete the cycle
from the cloud to the earth
and back again
in the warming
of the morning

Blog Guelph: For weeks it struggled....
The Yellow Tulip
by George Swede
For weeks
it struggled
through the hard crust
of the spring earth
and a foot
of air
Just to be
scorched
by the sun
jolted
by raindrops
blasted
by the wind
But on this gentle
May morning
as it opens
yellow petals
to the sky
Nothing else matters

Blog Guelph: Bar Behind Tulips
The walls, also, seem to be warming themselves.
The tulips should be behind bars like dangerous animals;
They are opening like the mouth of some great African cat,
And I am aware of my heart: it opens and closes
Its bowl of red blooms out of sheer love of me.
The water I taste is warm and salt, like the sea,
And comes from a country far away as health.
