"Many years ago I found a 35mm rangefinder and in a matter of months was hooked. I loved shooting Kodachrome 25 and waiting for the box of slides to arrive back in the mail. Over the years, the camera was put aside as mortgages, kids and career became the focus. Today I am seizing the opportunity to return to the adventure of photography, and record the world as I see it - sharing it through the reach of the internet."

We have a stunning Thursday on our hands folks.
At least from this office-gurl's view...
Yesterday, our lovely Sue Richards offered us a dozen historical pics of our dear old Guelph town. It's no surprise that the bulk of these were taken within the downtown core - the scene of the historic crime so to speak.
Sue couldn't have handed me a more beautiful segue for todays reminder about The Guelph Arts Council Historical Walking Tours Downtown Walkabout. Phew! Now that's a mouthful.

There's a super cool group that began their 2nd annual multi-faceted festival yesterday which runs straight through until Sunday called The Kazoo! Festival.
Here's a little piece of their write up:

Welcome to Wednesday - a perfectly pleasant one at that.
Today I'm pleased to offer a seven post series on the Speed and Eramosa Rivers.
We're lucky to have two, count em, two waterways coursing through our city. Besides being pretty as a picture - both rivers provide recreation, habitat and an opportunity for engineers to design and build bridges - around sixteen if I've counted correctly.
If you have time - visit a river and cross a bridge today. Image Guelph without these features - then see how you feel. You may discover that you've taken something for granted.

Today I'd like to introduce you to a slice of the killer work of none other than Mr. Mikey Mike, a mainstay of the Guelph Photography Club (the photo pool that just keeps on giving...).
Here's what Mr.M.M. says for himself:
"A camera allows us to take control of the thousands of subtle, fleeting moments that define our lives. We can capture something intangible—light—and hold it captive, releasing it again on our own terms, as a photograph, whenever and wherever we decide appropriate. This is why I'm fascinated by photography."

Blog Guelph: Last Week of Summer
Happy Monday cyber friends. Welcome to the last week of summer - gulp!!
I have spent much of the last 36 hours searching for the words to convey the enormous amount of gratitude I feel for Team Sue - a sprawling collection of my friends, acquaintance's and colleague's that whipped together the most remarkable evening of music, fun and fundraising that I could ever imagine.
Alas, words fail to be adequate for such a monumental task - thank you falls from my lips like leaves from a tree in October - but somehow the feeling that I have is so much bigger, warmer, softer even than words allow.
To everyone that holds me in their heart while I scale Mount Parkinson's please know that I currently deem myself the most lucky person in Guelph. I wish I could hug you all.
Enjoy today's four post set. Really enjoy this last Monday of summer.

I do believe I've veered off course by reverting to the this, the former day for Made in Guelph, as opposed to our shiny new Tuesday. Sigh.
SO unlike me to veer off course - just ask my friends...
It's all coming back to me now though, the irrepressible Sue Richards and I did, in fact, decide to switch days given that there is so much news for the weekend to be shared on Thursdays.
Again, my bad. Still in the throes of roadbrain.
To rectify, I'll fit in a bit of both.
Whatever you do, don't forget to get out to The Guelph Pottery & Sculpture Festival to be held at the beautiful Arboretum, U of G this Saturday AND Sunday.

Blog Guelph: I Am...
Greetings Guelphites and other friends from cyber heaven. I'm slow out of the bloggy Monday gate today for no other reason than I wanted to enjoy the suns shine this morning. So please pardon my tardiness.
Today's 7 pic choices all feature a different perspective of our dearly beloved Church of Our Lady.
As an exercise to stimulate gratitude, I tried to imagine waking up one morning and discovering her gone - vanished - no longer central in our Guelph landscape. Can you imagine? No Church!!! Egad!!
For now I Am most grateful for this beautiful structure. Perhaps you are too.

Blog Guelph: Dad's Bad Feet
Greetings on this moody, sometimes rainy, a bit gusty, first Friday of September.
There is much to do around town this weekend - The 15th Annual Jazz Festival, The 20th Annual Eden Mills Writer's Festival, Stephen Lewis and Naomi Klein at Royal City Park, a bountiful Guelph Farmer's Market and I suspect a billion student fueled parties. Hot times in the old town for sure.
Thanks to Peter Kelly for offering this Gem of the Day - a totally different slice of The Family statue in St. George's Square. Me thinks poor old crusty foot dad could use some socks for winter.

Welcome to this new season's version of
Made in Guelph
I thought I'd veer ever so slightly from the prescribed norm of showcasing one fab fotog today and instead introduce you to a slice of Guelph at our doorstep.
These seven shots were all found in the Flickr group pool entitled, one hundred feet from where I live (give or take), the idea being that there is beauty to be found right where we eat, sleep, argue, love, work and play - essentially home.
Not surprisingly, we've discovered that there are all sorts of variations on the theme. Beauty is indeed in the eye...

Blog Guelph: A University of Guelph Welcome
Guelph was flooded by thousands of incoming students on the weekend, many of them first timers to our community but possibly future leaders and innovators that will stick around town post grad.
Take Mayor Karen Farbridge as example. A Guelph alumni herself, our mayor was asked to tell her academic story to several hundred graduate students at a welcoming function. Check out her address here.

Blog Guelph: Stop the By-election?
A federal by-election was called for Guelph in late July with a September 8th vote date. Now speculation has it that our PM is going to call a general election sometime this week - thereby stopping the by-election process in it's tracks.
How utterly disrespectful to our voters and candidates!!
If this pisses you off and you want to vent - let our Governor General know. Apparently she can put a stop to the general call. Contact info here.

Blog Guelph: The Garden of Eden
Hello Blog-O-Philes!
Here we are smack dab at the start of September and it seems the best of summer is yet to come...in terms of weather that is.
As I trolled the Flickr files, I couldn't help but notice the deluge of striking shots which seemed to indicate that we experienced all manner of weather here in Guelph. Cast your eyes skyward for a glimpse of the few posted here today, beginning with Andrew Faires' beauty rainbow.
I'll toss in a few curiosities from the garden for good measure and one final pic of someone we all may have missed seeing this past month...
Having just recently returned from the east, I must admit to a seriously addled roadbrain which has left me wondering just what the heck is happening around town?
Here are a few from the rusty vaults:
Rumour has it (oh, and the card in my mailbox too) that there is to be a Guelph By-Election next Monday the 8th September. We here at Blog Guelph are BIG proponents of exercising that voting muscle, so get out there people and do your civic thang!
Guelph Jazz Festival begins tomorrow! We'll no doubt wax on about this incredible event as the days go by...
And, near and dear to my heart....Friday Noon Hour Concerts carry on until September 26th in St. George's Square at - well - noon on Fridays.

Blog Guelph: September Eyes Are Watching
Greetings on this Labour Day Monday and welcome back to another season of Blog Guelph - a multi-photographer photo blog that features slices of our beautiful and according to Maclean's Magazine, the most caring city in Canada - Guelph, Ontario.
