I'm a little late today. It must be because of my daydreaming with the sun.

I did a quick search to see what is going on this weekend, and came up with Celebrate Tourism Week and get to know Guelph and Wellington County better. Things don't really get under way until the third, but there are some ideas for this weekend on the list. I've never been to the Donkey Sanctuary. Every year I say this is the year. So, maybe this weekend is. :)

Also a heads up for Clean Air Day, Wednesday June 3, 2009. The city is offering free bus rides on all transit routes from 5:40am to 9:15pm.

I made butter this past weekend. It was goat butter, and I don't think I've made food any easier. I remember my mother making butter when I was a kid. We bought a litre of milk daily from a friend, and I was in charge of running down over the hill to get it. What my mother didn't know was, I was skimming off the top, lying in the long grass. Sigh. Ok, back to the butter. It seemed like forever that I would see her churning with a wooden paddle. Me, it took 10 minutes of shaking a mason jar of cream. I'm pretty sure my mother didn't toil for too long, but as a child everything takes forever.
If you do try making butter, I'm pretty sure you need to make no knead bread to put it on.

I also made pickled grapes. Someone on my facebook page said, pickled grapes = jam? This is different, and it is seriously good. It's pretty simple too.

We have a ton of gorgeous photography in the pools on flickr. I have to restrain myself and not take everything for my blog posts. Clicking on these photos will take you to the rest of the story in the photographer's stream.

I've been doing a heap of Wiking about town lately and have noticed the bumper crop of dandelion's the city is sporting. Personally, I feel friendly toward the edible beauty- so much so that today's photo series features multiple perspective of the plant. Our downtown Lynn, is gearing up for a super busy day, and so I am doing the Made in Guelph series today.

I'm pretty sure Peter has been featured more than once here on Blog Guelph, but here he is again!
If you're interested in seeing Peter's photos up close check them out at the Alma gallery downtown. His photography will be hanging, along with other photographers, until May 31st.

Peter, also put into motion a photography club here in Guelph, along with other photographers. Tomorrow is the first official meeting, and also when I will be doing a presentation on my photography. Here's the thread on flickr where the group needs a head count for proper seating, and also where you'll find all the details.

I haven't been to the Aberfoyle Market in a few years, but that might change this weekend. The last time I was there, while I was in the washroom, a lady asked me if I found any cameras yet. For a second I thought, does she know me from flickr, but then realized there were no photos of myself in my stream. It was all a little creepy, until she said she had a booth, and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I was a woman on a mission.

Look at this green!
My idea of a blog post on animals went out the window, when I saw this photo by owencherry, and then I came across digitalambition's shot. Guelph is green!
I swear, everyone was smiling downtown yesterday. We ate on the street outside Salsateria, and shopped at Meow*, and Wild Rose*. The sun was shining, and the first thing I said, while we walked was, it's a new day.

*By the way, if you're looking for bargains on women's quality used clothes, check them out.

Greetings Spring Folk and Lovers of All Things Neat-Looking!

For today's rendition of Made in Guelph, I thought it was high time to revisit our friend TheGiant Vermin AKA Tudor Costache and his beloved puppy, Ryder.
Much to my surprise (and tiny horror), it's been a year since I challenged Tudor to take up a 365 day project with Ryder as the fascinating subject.

One Pic a Day, every day for a year.
So he did.
And now it's over.
But fear not mateys! Our Vermin - as we lovingly call him - has even more tricks and projects up his sleeves and he may just need you too.

I had the great, good privilege of meeting Ryder in person(?) on a beautiful walk held in honour of the life and times of Chris Iwanowski this past weekend. She is one cool cat.

It's recipe time!
This recipe is simple, and you can add whatever you like. It is surprisingly delicious, and hey, it's good for you.
Quinoa salad:
quinoa
parsley
apple cider vinegar
peas
olive oil
salt & pepper

The quinoa I bought was the Gogo Quinoa label. It's a fair trade product, organic, and white and red seeds. I buy quinoa from the flour barrel, but I've also seen it at Zehrs and the health food store under other brands. Follow the directions on the box, but basically for a cup of quinoa, you'll need 11/2 cups of broth or water. It cooks in about 10 minutes at medium high heat. After that add some vinegar, frozen peas, parsley, and anything else you like. I've had it with feta sprinkled over and used lemon juice instead of vinegar. I've added chicken and nuts and sprinkled spinach leaves over the lot.

I'm going to try my hand in growing quinoa in my garden this year. I sure hope raccoons don't like it. ;)

I could easily post a hundred Gems of the Day from VW-Busman's photopool - so many artistic, unusual and delightful shots got faved in my process of deciding. But this classic family pic captured my heart and put a smile on my face despite the sadness that lurks within.

Hard as it is to accept, Chris is giving our community an incredible gift. It's so easy to mindlessly barrel through a day, week, month, lifetime. Unless something happens to snap us awake - like when a young dad gets diagnosed with terminal cancer. Then, what is truly important comes into sharp focus. Hearts open, a community knits together and the love bomb drops. It is a privilege to feel so deeply, even though it hurts like crazy.

Thank you Chris. Peace and love my friend.
