Blog Guelph: Dad's Bad Feet
Greetings on this moody, sometimes rainy, a bit gusty, first Friday of September.
There is much to do around town this weekend - The 15th Annual Jazz Festival, The 20th Annual Eden Mills Writer's Festival, Stephen Lewis and Naomi Klein at Royal City Park, a bountiful Guelph Farmer's Market and I suspect a billion student fueled parties. Hot times in the old town for sure.
Thanks to Peter Kelly for offering this Gem of the Day - a totally different slice of The Family statue in St. George's Square. Me thinks poor old crusty foot dad could use some socks for winter.
Did I say winter!!??
Yikes...

Blog Guelph: Strength In Numbers
Welcome to Wednesday.
Yesterday Stats Canada released their census numbers for 2006 so I scurried to their site to get the skinny on Guelph. As much as I loath doing statistics, I get pleasure reading them. Please allow me to regale you with some of the finer details of Guelph's population in today's six post series.
As long suspected by my single, straight female friends, Guelph's population does in fact have more women than men. In fact, there are 3065 more gals wandering around this town than fellows.
Strangely, the male female ratio is exactly the same in the 40 - 44 year old category with 4775 of both blues and pinks.

Blog Guelph: Silence
Good morning friends.
Today I present nine images on this foggy post Remembrance Day in Guelph. As you scroll through the posts, I would like to encourage you to take the time to focus on peace.
Please reflect on your own state of being. Are you at peace with your friends, family and co-workers? Do you resonate calmness to those around you? Is your heart at rest?
You may not feel able to stop war in the world. You are able to stop the wars you are fighting.

Blog Guelph: Guelph Photo Artist Dezso
It's been a while since I dedicated an entire series to one photographer so today is the day.
For any of you that attend the Guelph Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings and do the complete circuit down to the far end by the picnic tables, you have likely seen Dezsö's work. He has been vending his photography cards, prints and calendar for several years now.
As you will notice over the 9 photos in today's set, Dezsö has a terrific sense of composition plus the technical skill to bring the image alive - as beautifully illustrated with this capture of the Epitaph in downtown Guelph.

Blog Guelph: Your Family's Health
Today's series of five posts focus on a variety of topics and images that struck me as interesting and in this case important.
Here's the skinny on number one. Currently 'we the people' of this great nation of ours have something called health freedom. As example - we can choose to buy and take vitamins without the approval of our medical doctor.
I don't know about you but I've successfully practised vitamin taking for a very long time with no ill effects.
So.....in a slightly louder typeface..... HERE'S THE BUTT OF THE LATEST WAY YOU AND I MAY BE CONTROLLED IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.
On April 30, 2007 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will close the public comment period on "Guidance" which will classify every alternative practice as medicine so that only licensed physicians can carry out the procedure AND vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc., will suddenly become "untested drugs" which will be forbidden.
Imagine - busted for vitamins!

Blog Guelph: Under the Watchful Eyes of a Frog friend
Today's series of six images is dedicated to the first day of spring in the fine city of Guelph as captured by photo artist Edeva. Click on any of her photograph's to see her full Flickr photostream.
Edeva is also one of the bloggers featured in our Guelph Blog Roll. Her posts are thoughtful and artistically moving - go here to see for yourself.
Our downtown frog lives on the ledge of the fountain of the family statue. Even though Frog never leaves the post - she seems more visible during fine weather.
Frog doubles as a drinking fountain and training ground for Prince seeking women. Although I have not availed myself to either of her services, I'm told she is both refreshing and reliable.

Blog Guelph: Mighty Poseiden
I realize that if you're not from Guelph, you will find this image somewhat strange. I mean what would a small agricultural centre, landlocked in the middle of Ontario, sometimes known as Cow Town, have in common with a big honking Poseiden?
Here's my answer.
Guelph is home to the incredible Bernardi Precast Factory. I can only assume that the Italian heritage of the owners and concrete workers who whip up these massive hunks of art play a significant role in what gets created.
Photographers like Stingrayz just can't help themselves - I mean, can you blame him? See more of what catches Stingrayz eye by clicking here.

Blog Guelph: Snow - Get's In Your Eyes
My apology to those of you wondering if Blog Guelph froze in its tracks for the last week. While changing blog platforms, we got bugs in the software and I simply could not publish!
But we're back in biz - and Guelph photographer's have been hard at it - despite the extreme cold and blustery weather.
